Multimedia And Storage Technology In The Television Broadcast Center Applications

With the help of the rapidly developing Information Technology in recent years, television station have beginning a great change from traditional tape-based linear workflow to computer storage technology based non-linear workflow, from shot, edit to broadcast and store. The fusion of television technology and IT has become an irreversible trend.Broadcast, the most important and complicated sector in the television technology, have gotten a great leap forward in the technology revolution. Next generation of broadcasting centre based on network storage technology and video server have taken the place of old generation broadcasting centre based on video cassette player and broadcasting routing switcher.New broadcasting centre of Chengdu Television Station construct in 2006 and put into use after one year. New broadcasting centre have reached the top level of the nation by using many advanced technology and new ideas. Our storage system is the first case was introduced in domestic broadcasting centre based on SAN, as one of the main system designer, I write the dissertation combine theory with practice based on the design and construction of the new broadcasting centre.The thesis mainly expatiate digital video compression and network storage technology, the use of storage area network(SAN) in new broadcasting centre of Chengdu Television Station were especially introduced in this paper. In the beginning, briefly introduce and compare the hardware and software system in traditional and new broadcasting centre; Then focus on MPEG-2 and discuss various techniques for video compression; The principle of Raids'and the reasons for our choice of RAID 3 also describe; The advantages of SAN compared with DAS and NAS,Fibre Channel Protocol and three Fibre Channel network topologies has been constructed in details; Finally, the use method of SAN in Chengdu Television Station's broadcasting centre and the mechanisms used in automatic recovery system, the practical application results are outlined in details.
