It is an important problem that we should control chip during machining process, if we cannot solve it, we'll not get a high efficiency. This problem mainly involves two parts. Of course, there are many factors affecting chip's type, but the most important factor is tool's groove type. So it is necessary to study tool's groove. Now we introduce simulation and virtual reality technology to machining process and making use of these technologies, we can simulate the different process of chip's forming and breaking by different types of tool's groove. By this way, we can get a kind of perfect tool's groove type to realize the optimization of groove type and cut down the cycle, finally can we control chip.After analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of OpenGL and WTK, we decide to combine the advantages of OpenGL and WTK, namely, we should link OpenGL and WTK to VC environment. In this environment, we connect the relevant math models about chip's forming and breaking with VC, OpenGL and WTK.First, we decide the basic data of this system: parameters describing chip's path, parameters, which can decide the parameters describing chip's path, a series of relevant math model linking these two kinds of parameters and relevant math models of chip's break by analyzing kinds of reciprocities between chip's path and barrier.Then, we link the initial parameters to the chip's forming parameters and link the forming parameters to the breaking parameters by writing program, link the parameters which can describe chip's forming and breaking to OpenGL and by running the program we can get the vivid chip's forming and breaking dynamically. Last, on the basis of simulation of chip's forming and breaking, we can make use of WTK to set the environment of virtual reality and convert the data of chip's forming and breaking in simulation into virtual reality, thus can we finish virtual reality system of chip's forming and breaking.In a word, by chip's forming and breaking simulation and virtual reality system, can we connect the initial parameters of machining with different parameters of chip's forming and breaking. Namely, we can get different vivid chip's types fromdifferent initial condition parameters (including parameters on tool's groove types) and realize optimization of tool's groove. So now we can draw a conclusion that we have found a good way to control chip.
