Internal microstructure for artificial bioactive bone is the important step to fabricating bioactive bone by rapid prototyping. A modeling of internal microstructure for artificial bioactive bone is presented and realized by an objected-oriented technology. The main steps as follows. Firstly, model of bone internal microstructure is constructed by basic structure unit(rectangular patch); Secondly, fractal interpolation surface patch is constructed by processing rectangular patch; thirdly, STL model of bone internal microstructure is formed by transforming model data according to STL formation.The algorithm of construction of a fractal interpolation surface patch based on rectangular patch is presented in the modeling, the construction algorithms of osteons and Volkmann canals are designed, and the distribution of Volkmann canals, the size and structure of osteons can be regulated and controlled according to different area, so it can satisfy the needs of the internal microstructure model.Based on a discussion about the composition, microstructure and role of bone tissue, the requirements that artificial bioactive bone should meet are discussed, a simplified method of bone microstructure is put forward, an internal microstructure model for artificial bioactive bone is established The model is a structure with multi-holes, large area and volume. Not only the size and distribution but also the shape and structure of micro-holes are considered. The model is fundamentally similar in structure characters of bone tissue, so assuring the bioactivity of bone in structure.With the modeling of internal microstructure for artificial bioactive bone as the corn, a software package is developed with Visual C++ and OpenGL platform. It can output model data in STL formation, so completing the preparation for the data processing offabricating artificial bone by rapid prototyping technology.
