Database Middleware is the most widely used and maturest middleware, the current related researches focus on the integration of heterogeneous data sources. With the rapid development of enterprise requirements for distributed processing and Internet information network, present network information systems propose higher requirements for efficiency of data interaction, data security and system load banlance. Current database middleware cannot meet the need of network information system application said above. The development of agent provides a solution. At present, some researches have been done on the application of agent in middleware, but it still lacks more deeply study in database middleware.This thesis investigates the technology of database middleware, software agent, coordination and communication of multi-agent, then discusses the theoretical feasibility of introducing agent technology into database middleware and designs a multi-agent database middleware system model based on software agent for Internet environment. We also argue the scheme design of the database middleware system model from the property, architecture, and organization of agent, communication and coordination in muti-agent, and agents involved in system. Finallly, We discuss the application of this model in the Jiangsu water resources fundational database system.The system scheme discussed in this thesis provides a good solution for the problems arising in common database middleware and adaptes to the requirements in network information system said above, and meets the need of enterprise distributed processing. Further more researches should be done on applying mobile agent to database middleware system and enhancing the study capability to implement more intelligent database middleware systems.
