Visual simulation system is an important component of a train simulator, it is also a key factor to evaluate whether the simulator is advanced or not. Considering the requirement of the high-grade train simulation systems in our nation and the fact that the system is expensive abroad, in the thesis the author introduce a train visual simulation system based on PCs. We can implement multi-channel and wide field of view on it. And the author has done a research on some key technologies such as the real-time communications among the scene generation nodes and the real-time rendering of realistic graphics. The main research works in this thesis are listed as following:1. An OpenGL high-grade visual developing environment is set up. IRIS Performer is used to render the scene quickly. And the building, management and simplification of 3D scene database are discussed.2. A multi-channel visual simulation system based on PCs is implemented and can provide wider field of view. Distributed architecture is applied in the system. And IP multi-cast technology combined with unicast are applied to implement the communications between the nodes. The system can satisfy the real-time demand of train simulation system. Compared with the visual system based on SGI graphics workstation, the system has a flexible structure and a low cost, and it is easy to expand and upgrade.3. Per-pixel lighting is implemented by using projective texture mapping technology and simulated the train headlights successfully. Shadow texture cast technology is applied to generate real-time shadows. They improve the reality of the visual system. Hybrid approach of shadows generation and shadowing objects filtered project are discussed. According to relation between objects and light sources, relative shadows generation technologies are selected to solve the contradiction between graphic reality and the real-time property.4. Nodes switch mechanism and texture mapping technology are applied to simulate the incidents of suicide and the fire. Emergent accidents areprovided for the trainer.
