Study On Information-driven Group Awareness Modeling And Its Realization Method In CSCW Environment

The conception of CSCW came into being in 1984. In less than 20 years it has developed into an important research field of computer science. Especially today, various web-based cooperation systems have emerged with the development of Internet and web technology. The research of CSCW has its wide application prospect and so draws attention and devotion of many researchers. However, as a new research field, the technology of CSCW is far from perfection yet. There are lots of technical problems to be solved and among them group awareness is a key.This paper is focused on group awareness. On the basis of summarization and analysis of relative research findings at home and abroad, a systematic exploration of group awareness in CSCW system has been made in this paper. And also some creative ideas have been put forward.1. For the first time, a systematic perspective of group awareness has been brought forward in this paper. And a new information-driven group awareness model has been made on the basis of analysis on CSCW system structure and traditional realization methods of group awareness. At the same time, a systematic solution of CSCW group awareness technology has been provided through combining information filtering mechanism, concurrency control, history record mechanism and group communication support with awareness mechanism.2. In-depth research and analysis of 3 key technologies in this new model, which are multi-user interface, information filter and multicast technology, have also been made. In this research there are two sparks. One is the object-oriented design and analysis of HCI (Human Computer Interface) model in hybrid structure. Another is the idea of role-based group awareness filter mechanism.3. An improved design of web-based white board system, which is a prototype system of CSCW, has been done on the basis of new model in this paper. Although this design is just a simplified version of the new model, it shows pretty well the importance of group awareness in CSCW system, the complexity of its realization and the contribution of this model to practical system.
