CORBA is the standard and open industrial architecture of distributed object computing. It is independent of the special platforms and unconcerned with the programming languages, and it has interoperability under the heterogeneous environments. The softwares developed using CORBA, provide the characteristic of not only oriented object but reusability, portability, scalability, extensibility and interoperability, etc. It have been one of the popular technologies developed the distributed application that CORBA has the extreme advantage under the heterogeneous environments.In years lately,research and development of CORBA technology comes into the new field in international. Realizing its development status and researching its application have not only the theoretical significance but the great practical importance to improve the level of development of Chinese network software, particularly, the level of TMN, and will advance vigorously the evolution of information industry. If these research results are popularized and applied to the fields of enterprise information system, electronic commence, etc. they may work for society and bring the considerable economic and society benefits. The paper' s research results have the biggish reference values for the system designers and developer which are being ready to build the enterprise CORBA system.In the paper, the architecture,core, mechanism or principle and application of CORBA are deeply researched, database access,multithread programming,UML, DLL and object-oriented technology are also researched. I design and implement the general video information search system using object-oriented software engineering methodology. The system has the advanced architecture and generality, and are built with the object-orientedtechnology purely, and is provided with maintenancability and scalability. The system can work across lots of hardware platforms, operation systems and networks. Research and application of the efficient IDL design and multithread programming technology improve the system performance, the two methods are proved to be effective by system testing. Through the binding mechanism of CORBA request is researched deeply, the dynamic scalability of system is resolved, the activation of object implementations on demand is implemented.Via the development of a concrete system in the paper, the steps and processes to build a distributed application system using CORBA are developed. At chapter one, Introduction explains the session and research distination of the researched project, and expounds sumarily CORBA, the advantage and application status of CORBA, and limits even detailedly the research object and contain of this paper. At chapter 2, all kinds of technologies used in the researched project are introduced. Among these technologies, CORBA technology is most important, and is also the emphase of research in this paper, its architecture and characteristic are expounded detailedly. At chapter 3, the process of building system model with object-oriented system analysis and design methods is discussed, and the modal is decriptioned using UML. At chapter 4, the implementation methods and processes of primary modules and the solution of key problems in this system are discusses detailedly, and application of all kinds of technologies used to implement the system is showed. Finally, the application status of the general video informtion search system is introduced simply.
