This thesis studies the application of Wavelet Transform (WT) in the fusion of Panchromatic and Multi-spectral satellite remote sensing images. Each image was decomposed into certain sub-images, which are consisted of an approximation image and a set of spatially-oriented detail images by the two dimension orthogonal wavelets. These sub-images were then merged under a delicate fusion model, which helped to keep the spectral feature of the original multi-spectral images as much as possible. A serials of tests were taken on the platform of Matlab, consisted of the fusion between one band of the multispectral image and Panchromatic image; studying the effect of the fusion images by four different decomposition levels, proposing the relationship between the decomposition level and the times of spatial resolution of two origin images. In addition, IHS, one of the chromatic space transform method was conducted. Several parameters were used to assess the original images and the fusion results by comparing the content of information, the articulation and the spectral information status.
