| In 1980's, the host program sprang up in Chinese broadcast and TV history and gave rise to a widerspread and prolonged disscussion. Professor Wu Yu points out that the essential trait of host is individualization and personalitization. Wu also believes that host's individuality is mainly embodied by his language. The paper, on the basis of that, thinks more of how the host's individuality is embodied by his language. After combing theories of professed hosts and research workers, reading a great many of hosts' autobiographies and interview materials, looking up records of program from books or electronic materials and putting some records into order, the author analysed the host's individual language phenomenon by the basic means of contrast. The whole paper consists of these parts: What is individuality, the exist of individuality, the uneven characteristic of individuality and the dynamic characteristic of individuality.Individuality is host's basic need. It is not characteristic, it has not the difference between good and bad, and it's not difference alone. When some one is excellent in some fields, we can say that he has individuality. Exellence is the essence of individuality. First, individuality is individual but individual is not bad. Neglecting personal does not mean valuing collective. Human is the aggregation of all kinds of social relations. Personalization is not privatization. Second, individualization doesn't completly mean personalization, they are overlapping. Individuality is always to be personal, but not only belong to individual. There is generality in individuality, they can transformthemselves into another under limited conditions. Individuality is relative and reflectedin the relations among people, it is the trendency of humanization and the aim of developing individuality is to reach a better communication.There are all kinds of hosts who belong to different rank, so is audience. Different assessments and ideas are needed by audience, so the excellence of host is not unique. An excellent host despises simple imitation, but tries his best to make innovation. Considered itself and people's need, there are different levels and degrees in the whole individuality, for life and people's requirement are diverse. Dirersity is not simply difference, it is a kind of development and innovation. Host can give different words to different people, it's not catering but cooperating. The best individuality is to reach or overstep the best personality.For individuality' s dynamic characteristic, we can' t isolatedly or staticly speak whether someone's individuality is obvious. Excellence is not absolute but dynamic. In a good enviroment, individuality can be developed promptly, but there is also the possibility that it can be degraded. Everyone has individuality and we should continually develop ours individuality.There is no abstract individuality梚t lies in the words. "How to say" and "What to say" are two aspects by which individuality is embodied in language. For the strong intention of innovation and the spirit of overstep, individuality always shows its sharpness to some extent.The inner element which decides what to say and how to say is host's quality, including his thinking ability, cultural accumulation, attitude for living, world outlook, methodology, etc. The outer element is the context that the individuality stems from and exists in, and it's decided by the present situation and trendency of times, program's cultural orientation, the choice of topics, the situation of scene, etc.?2 ?Individuality is reflected by "What to say", or "How to say", or "What and how to say". How to say is embodied in two levels, one is text level, the other is expression level. It's easy to show one's ability of deciding "What to say" in news program and speaking program, for they can reflect a host's congitive ability, thinking profoundity, even philosophital thinking. The excellence of "What to say" is always reflected by the sharpness and uniqueness of the question one asked...
