The modern digital communications technology, especially the rapid development of the mobile communications technology, computer technology and satellite communicationss technology, supports the adoption of the more advanced and effective communications mode to realize the control of all kinds of traffic with favorable technical condition.In the technical scheme of the new communications, navigation, inspection and traffic control, the operation is based on the establishment of a modern communications network. One of the important development emphases is to explore the technology and application of the VHF(Very High Frequency) data chain on the basis of TDMA technology.hi order to improve the shipping navigation safety, operating efficiency and the information transmitting capacity on the sea, the International Maritime Organization and International Telecom Union confirm that AIS (Automobile Identifying System) is the identifying, inspecting and communicating system on the sea in the future. In AIS, SOTDMA technology can be used to link the broadcasting station data and is the late-model broadcasting digital communications technology utilized hi the future navigation and aviation traffic control, and the core of the global placement & communications on the basis of TDMA technology hi the nineties.The article does the research, combining AIS, in the following aspects: the detailed introduction of the TDMA technical principle and application, and particular analysis of the communicating principle, SOTDMA time slot reservation selection arithmetic and the related connection technology of the SOTDMA on the foundation of TDMA, with the result of the application hi the AIS system. Meanwhile, the article probes into the network performance of applying SOTDMA technology, such as the system capacity, channel conflict and the utilization ratio, data transmitting delay and so on, which are grounded on the completeinunderstanding of the technology, through the model, it simulates the SOTDMA time slot reservation selection arithmetic on computer. We can observe the useage of the time slot, including the situations of how the user use the channel. In the same time, you can see how the system runs when parameters change.Through the study of this topic, we have a clear understanding with the SOTDMA. Also, what this article does build a solid base for the further study of SOTDMA and the design of the AIS system.
