Communication requirement of real-time data has growing continually in recent years. Since Mobile Ad Hoc Networks possesses advantages with no fixed infrastructures, easy deployment, flexible configuration and invulnerability, which makes it gain more attention and has been used widely. To satisfy the QoS requirement of real-time data, MANETs has become one of the most important research subjects in multihop wireless network. To satisfy the bandwidth requirement of real-time data, this paper proposes a cross-layer designing scheme(BGQR protocol) in TDMA-based Mobile Ad Hoc Networks. Compared with the existing time slot assignment protocol, the proposed time slot assignment algorithm THTS has the characteristics as follows:(1)Compared with hop-by-hop time slot assignment algorithms, THTS assigns time slots with information of three hop links in order to reduce the interference of time slots to each other and enhance the spatial multiplex ratio of time slots within each three hop links in the route.(2)Compared with end-to-end time slot assignment algorithms, THTS can effectively decreases storage overhead of route control packet and processor resource overhead at the destination node of the route. To further enhance the utilization efficiency of network resources, BGQR protocol optimizes the existing schemes through the following improvements.(1)Adopts a set method for organizing time slots, which can effectively improve the efficiency of wireless channel resources.(2)Proposes a lightweight storage method, which decreases the storage overhead by recording time slot status information into route control packet.(3)Adds data packet buffer queues in MAC layer, which avoids the utilization efficiency of time slot resources decreased due to the blocking of data queue in MAC layer. This paper introduces the designing and theoretical analysis of time slot assignment algorithm and describes the specific design process and implementation details of BGQR protocol in NS2 network simulator. The simulation results show that the proposed BGQR protocol has higher network throughput and lower average end-to-end delay.
