According to collecting and analyzing the fault information of the JYL-6 Weather Radar which is assembled in one of the main planes of the Air Force, we found the vulnerability on the Radar抯 design and technics. Then we made some correction and the product抯 dependability is improved. In the dependability improvement process, we used many kinds of methods, such as dependability improvement analysis, dependability forecast, fault modeling effect analysis, dependability qualification test etc. It verified the evident improvement in the JYL-6 Weather Radar抯 dependability. The point estimate value is improved from 77.7 hours to 432.4 hours and the MTBF value reaches 144 hours. In our country, it is the first time that the airborne radar抯 dependability criteria exceed 100 hours. If this achievement is applied into the planes on active duty, it will reduce the maintenance cost 17 million ~ during the full lifetime. As the dependability level is increased 5.6 times, it will improves the plane抯 attendance rate. So there is enormous military and economy profit in this project.
