On The Countermeasures Of Developing University Student Associations

A survey about American university students made by American Carnegie Educational Funds Association shows: "The effect of university education is connected with the time students spend on the campus and the quality of various kinds of activities students take part in." This is also the case in our country. The quality of various student association activities organized in university has a big influence and function on the development of students' comprehensive ability. Because of the characteristics of these associations and the environmental limitation, the student associations in our country's universities also have resulted in some problems during the rapid development in the recent years. In order to foster these student associations to develop in the right direction healthily and steadily, it is necessary to do some research into the development countermeasure of the student associations in the universities.This essay is aimed to analyze the present condition of the student associations in universities, make use of the higher education principle to think theoretically and put forward three basic countermeasures to develop these associations further, taking Hunan University of Science and Engineering as an example.To help student associations develop in the right direction healthily and steadily, these three basic countermeasures can be adopted:First, make the approbation of education value of student associations a thought foundation of their development. Universities should study further, change administration concept and understand fully the value of self-teaching education, spare time education, teamwork education and cultural development of the student associations, in order that we can convert the value approbation into the basic motive to construct the student associations. In approbating the value of student associations education, we should specially pay much attention to the value of their cultural development. Because the student associations' culture has a unique form and content, takes up a special position and has a different function in quality education, compared with other second cultures on the campus.Second, make the confirmation of development direction an aim for the development of student associations. In the new period, the development of student associations needs great foresight for the future and progress with the times. The traditional, unstable and interest-centered student associations can not satisfy the demand of strengthening the quality education or the development of campus culture. The construction of the specialization, compatibility, openness and starting-business type of student associations will become the strategic direction of developing student associations in our country.Third, make the cultural system construction the core work in developing student associations. In order to promote the development of student associations in universities, we need to carry on various kinds of constructions. However, the cultural system construction is the key point, because the advanced student associations' culture has a strong affinity and is energy headsprings of development. Universities should take measures, and work hard to set up the cultural system construction constituted by student associations' surface culture, intermediate culture and deep culture.The development of student associations of universities has its own rule. But because of the different practical circumstances, universities should take proper and realistic countermeasures to develop these student associations. Generally speaking, it is better to combine the guiding thought of running a school with the mode of cultivating the talented persons, make full use of the advantageous resources, develop the construction with emphasis and make great effort to construct special features of student associations.
