The knowledge economy is an economy with a core of knowledge. The knowledge innovation requires innovation abilities which are brought by the innovative education. How to cultivate the innovation abilities is the concern of the academic world. Now the fundamental education reforms which are being implemented are all around the theme of innovation.The study of cultivating the students'innovation abilities is both a significantly exploratory education experiment and a systematic project in secondary school physics teaching. As the traditional teaching style cannot keep the pace with the requirements of the students'innovation abilities, exploring the new educational form has been an inevitable trend. As the author, I try to propose a new method that cultivates the innovative abilities through the STS education in secondary school physics teaching without ignoring the current teaching kit and curriculum standard. This proposal, which is on the basis of a sea of literatures, aims at the cultivation of students'innovation abilities.Firstly, this paper narrates the core and structure of students'innovation abilities in school. In addition, it explains some theories concerned about the STS education in details, especially the necessity and significance of the STS education in secondary school physics teaching. Secondly, it points out the possibility of implement of the STS which orients cultivating students'innovation abilities, as well as the principles and methods, according to the theories regarding to education, psychology, STS education and innovative education. After a comparison between the traditional physics teaching and the new one with the STS education in secondary school, the paper puts forward a teaching style applying the STS education to cultivating students'innovation abilities and a STS education plan which has been put into a primary teaching practice of a short term. With an experiment about the interest scale of students'physics learning, the test paper of innovation abilities and the Williams Creativity Tendency Test, it comprehensively evaluates the level of students'innovation abilities. This practice has seen the possibility of conducting the STS education widely to cultivate innovation abilities and can be a reference in secondary schoo physics teaching.
