Ancient Chinese Academy is a typical educational organization which began from Tang Dynasty, thrived in Song dynasty and ended in late of Qing dynasty. Thus, Ancient Chinese Academy education had a history of more than 1,000 years until it transformed into school by the Qing Dynasty's order.Though the attitude of Qing Dynasty towards Ancient Chinese Academy was restraint at first, then shifting to encouragement, on the whole, Ancient Chinese Academy had overcome the its downturn in Ming Dynasty, and gained its development. The statistic shows that there were 4365 Ancient Chinese Academies in Qing Dynasty and a strong increase in the number of their students. Consequently, the demand for books greatly rised and the collection of book was improved unprecedentedly, especially the number, collection feature, catalogue compilation, and management of books surpassed the previous ones. In late Qing dynasty, the collection of books began to modernizate and created the base of modern library. Therefore, the collection of books of Ancient Chinese Academy in Qing Dynasty attaches much importance to understand the history of Chinese book enterprise.This paper is divided into 6 chapters. The first one introduces the general developement of the book collections of Ancient Chinese Academy in Qing Dynasty; the second one is the research on resources of books and is further divided into the resource of fund, its management, and the channels of purchase; in the third one, the features of book collection are discussed through the contents of books, bookbindings, and the number of books; the forth one is the analysis of book managements and is sub-divided into purchase, register, classification, catalogue and forms of books; in the fifth chapter, the circulation rules are studied in detail; the sixth one discusses the utilizaion and the significance of book collection of Ancient Chinese Academy in Qing Dynasty.This paper facilitates the understanding of Chinese feudal traditional culture and the research on the history of Chinese education and library, especially the management rules, and the protection of books of Ancient Chinese Academy in Qing Dynasty has significantly influenced construction and development modern libraries.
