Shuyuan, the Chinese ancient academy, as the most important carrier of Chinese traditional culture development, was the major place for teaching in ancient China. In Qing Dynasty, Shuyuan was in the most mature stage of the history. On the other hand, the Shuyuan in JiangXi had a great influence around China. Xuegui, the general term for Shuyuan’s rules and regulations, contain many educational thoughts and some requirements for teachers.At first, the Xuegui had made a provision of teacher’s obligations. In this paper, it summarizes teacher’s responsibility into two aspects, pedagogic duties including teaching, disabusing and supervising and the management responsibilities containing fete organizing, discipline maintaining and other affairs managing. At last, based on the modern teaching theory to analyze Shuyuan teacher’s two kinds of responsibilities, then makes the conclusion of teacher’s mission is that teachers’responsibilities is important and comprehensive.Secondly, this writer also sums up Shuyuan’s demands and disposition of being a teacher, especially to be the head master(Shanzhang). They always intend to employ those who are learned, moral, and prestigious. The district was limited as well, however, those avoid policy is very scientific. From all these above, the changes in employment standards could be clearly seen. In addition, the unqualified Shanzhang would be docked pay or suffered other punishments. Actually, all these strict standards aimed to guarantee Shuyuan teachers’ quality.At last, Shuyuan teachers’salary is analyzed in this paper. By comparing staffs’ salary to stand out teacher was highest-paid. Then, comparing teachers with Qing officials means to know the general level of treatment for teacher. Furthermore, the writer analyzes theirs main income channels, and makes a summary of the most important factors which influence teacher’s wages. In the end, based on their economic status in whole society expects to analyze the standards of teacher’s wage level, then makes a further investigation into teacher’s social status.
