The teaching of Chinese reading has always been one of the most important contents in Chinese teaching, and it is also one in which most time has been spent on but least results have been achieved of all the contents of the Chinese teaching.Students, the main body of the teaching, have learned lots of lessons, recited lots of great classics and made lots of notes, but in the end, few of them can form the good habit of reading and have the ability to read and analyse the articles.Though we have been trying to improve the teaching methods in Chinese reading, we have to admit that all the attemps are still marked with the old ways that students'skills in reading and comprehension are being replaced by the teachers own reading. Rethinking profoundly of the teaching of reading today, it's not hard for us to find that there remains to be quite a few drawbacks, such as"every one has the same reading model","divide the article mechanically into parts","fixed answers, personality being ignored"and"Reading is training ; reading is doing exercises"and so on. In fact, the process of reading teaching should be the process of the interaction of the teachers and the students, not for the single part of the teachers'teaching while the students have to learn passively. With the new round of curriculum reform, the introduction of advanced theories, the generations of teaching ideas, and the reform of Chinese teaching material and so on will provide new opportunity for the reform of the teaching of Chinese reading. However, looking at the current situation of the teaching of modern Chinese reading in Yizhou No.1 High School, we find things are far from perfect. There are still teachers who ignore the new standards of curriculum and continue to use the old methods; there are teachers who misunderstand the new standards of curriculum and take wrong actions. So it seems to be of great importance to rethink of the teaching of Chinese reading represented by modern Chinese based on the present situation.This essay is a research into three aspects (compresence of new and old ways and the confounding of teaching ideas in Chinese reading teaching; teachers'current situation of their teaching of reading; and the circumstances for students to read in) of modern Chinese reading teaching in Yizhou No.1 High School. We found the main factor that affects the teaching of reading in NO.1 High School of Yizhou is that the teachers ignore the principle part of the teaching--- the students. They like to simplify the process of teaching; their way of teaching is too simple. Sometimes,they pay no attention to the diversity of the students and different choices of ways for the students to read different materials.Some teachers can not make full use of the limited class time, leading to low efficiency of teaching.Some teachers don't pay attention to guiding students to read, resulting in many students'lacking basic reading methods.Thus the efficiency of reading is very low.Lots of teachers ignore to guide students to read after class. The result is that many students take a liberal attitude towards reading; the cultural attainment of many Chinese teachers remains to be improved.In the aspect of students, they are very active in reading but there is great blindness. They don't know how to analyse to understand the article by themselves. They are not able to put forward questions to help them dig furthur into the article by themselves; Let alone think from all sides. Their reading structure is not reasonable. Many of them like to read the"snack"and amusement reading materials. The level of their reading is not high and their reading aims are not clear but very random. They lack perseverence in reading.As for reading environment, the parents have few effects on students'reading.The reading circumstances of the family remain to be improved. The school should strengthen the influencing environment of reading from both material and spiritual aspects.And it's a pity that a harmonious, pleasant,comfortable and free reading environment has not come into being in Yizhou City.In order to overcome all the disadvantages, a series of measurements are put forward in this essay. Firstly, teachers should renew their teaching ideas, that is, teachers should play a part of interlocutor, guider and organizer. Teachers should deepen their cognition of essence of their teaching of reading and optimize the objective consciousness of the teaching of reading. They should also strengthen consciousness of Chinese training and the main part of the students while reading . This essay is also a reflection of the problems occuring while teaching in the common ways in No. 1 High School of Yizhou. In this essay, the writer put forward some solutions of the problems. Secondly, take a correct attitude towards out-of-class reading, that is to say, the teaching in class is a method while reading out of class is the aim. The writer gives his own ideas on how to guide the students to read out of class in this essay, that is, making reasonable reading plans; recommending out-of-class reading materials to the students; making students recommend good books to each other and so on in order to promote students'out-of-class reading based on classroom reading and vice versa. Finally, optimize the circumstances for out-of–class reading. In the aspect of the family, make the parents understand the importance of out-of-class reading which can help students develop their body and mind so that a good circumstance will be formed for the students. In the aspect of the school, the school should create good reading conditions for the students from both material resources and spiritual resources. In the aspect of the society, we should focus on taking advantage of the strong points of Yizhou as an old city with rich culture. We should make full use of the community culture to create a good reading atmosphere of the whole society.
