Academy was a unique form of educational organizations in feudal society of China.It not only played an important role in China's ancient education,but also is quite characteristic in the history of education in the world. Academy sprouted in the Tang Dynasty, formed in the Five Dynasties, developed in the Song Dynasty, and reached its peak in the Qing Dynasty. Academy from generation to disappearance , lasting for about a thousand years has made enormous contributions to the educational development of China's feudal period and academic prosperity. Because of the superiority of Academy in personnel training and the formation of the national spirit, so it still has practical significance to understand and study it.Songyang Academy , an good example in the history of the Academy was established earlier in China, and had a greater impact on the others. Meanwhile the Yuelu Academy of Hunan Province,the Bailudong Academy of Lushan Mountain in Jiangxi , the Yingtianfu Academy in Shangqiu(also known as Suiyang Academy) with Songyang Academy were as the four well-known Academyies at the beginning of the Northern Song Dynasty. Songyang Academy with a developement for a thousand years, has formed a comprehensive education system, management system and regulation system, which played an important role in transmitting traditional Chinese culture, spreading academic thinking, accumulating and creating teaching experience, cultivating talents, and so on.This paper tries to give a historical picture of Songyang Academy about its history, construction, books and funding sources ,and at the same time, mainly focuses on the exploration of the activities of the Academy's education, and then tries to draw lessons from history in order to serve the present. In another word, on the basis of studying Songyang Academy, the inspiration on current higher education is probed.The paper is divided into four parts:The first part,"The Overview of Songyang Academy"describes the geographical layout of the environment and building, and then on the basis of the development, reviews the history of Songyang Academy, with a view from the grand picture to show the history of the rise and fall of the millennium Academy.The second part,"The Organization and Management of Songyang Academy", hackles in detail the organization and management characteristics of Songyang Academy from summarizing the management of funds, the Academy's books, and the worship activities.The third part,"The Educational Activities of Songyang Academy", relies on the historical materials of Songyang Academy to show the integrated education style, including the content of courses, teaching principles and methods, teaching management, famous teachers in the Qing Dynasty and the contributions of the education of Confucian school of idealist philosophy.The fourth part,"The Enlightenment for Contemporary Higher Education Reform."based on the characteristics of Songyang Academy, tries to carry out a multi-angle, deep-level analysis, in order to get rich experiences of ancient Academy education in China for the theoretical and practical development of higher education in the contemporary era.
