Modern society is a learning society, in which everyone considers studying as a life-long career. And this requests all the learners to learn how to study and subjective initiative in learning has been emphasized. The self-directed learning is advocated to manifest person's independency and activityThe self-directed learning will rely on in the very great degree the self-awareness development. The primary school students in Grade three and afterwards may carry on the self-directed learning in a certain area of their study. After entering the junior middle school, the students may acquire an omni-directional promotion in their self-directed learning. As for the senior middle school students, they have got a relatively full development in the capability of the self-directed learning which makes it possible for them to choose independently a study goal, to make a learning program and the study content, to employ correct study method, to monitor the study process, and to appraise the study result. But studies indicated that, the senior middle school students in our country still don't have enough self-directed learning capability and the development of the self-directed learning capability is imbalanced between students. Therefore, carrying out the self-directed learning in the high school classroom has an important practical significance, and also this will build the good foundation for the students'lifelong study.On the base of the study of the domestic and foreign self-directed learning, the author adopts the research achievements of self-directed learning in other subjects and fields. The author, with an experience of more than ten years'biology teaching reform, selects two parallel classes of senior two in Julu No. 1 Middle School to carry on the concrete teaching experiment, Instructing the students in the experimental class to carry out the self-directed learning, and the comparison class to use traditional teaching methods. Based on the different levels of the students'ability of the self-directed learning and the division and the reference of the Grow stage type self-directed learning pattern, the longitudinal stage of senior Biology will be divided into three stages, that is the low self-directed stage, the moderate self-directed stage and the high self-directed stage, so that different methods and tragedies will be adopted to promote the students to develop their capability of self-directed learning from a lower level to a higher one.During the process of the experiment, I will wholly illustrate the changes of the students'development in the self-directed learning through observation and discussion with the students, making analysis of the students'characteristic, the study goal formulation, the study content choice and the determination, the learning environment choice and the establishment, the study strategy and the method choice and the application, monitoring reconsidering and the appraisal and so on. After the experiment, the effect of the self-directed learning will be analyzed through the statistical analysis of the experimental classes and the comparison class in the following aspects: the terminal test result, the test result of the biological experiment skill, the inspection result of the capability of the biological experiment design, the completion of the biological research topic and so on. Meanwhile the students'development and changes in various aspects will be summarized after the self-directed learning through analysis of the experimental class's pre-test and post-test.This research showed that the students, through the self-directed learning, had a bigger enhancement in the biological experiment skill and in the biological experiment design capacity, moreover the students have grasped the essential method of scientific research, which will be of great help in the students'future study and development. For another thing, the students also learnt how to formulate the more detailed study goal and have grasped the methods of searching learning materials, analyzing the materials and finding out methods and strategies which are adapted to the students themselves. By using these methods and strategies, the students greatly improved their study efficiency, and therefore they had more time to enlarge their knowledge range, and this will prepare the students well for the life in the university.Finally, through this research the students enhanced their monitoring and adjusting ability in their study behavior, and were able to find suitable monitoring method to guarantee themselves to complete the task or plan; Simultaneously because of the great improvement of the students'self-appraisal ability, they could make an objective and accurate appraisal to their own study instead of evaluating the study effect just based on examine marks.
