Study Of Urbanization Level Measurement And Disparity In China

The urbanization of our country shows an unprecedented speed and many large cities have got remarkable achievement in the process of urbanization. Also, it attracts a lot of attention from the field of academia. Economists have done lots of researches in the urbanizations of China, with the viewing angle of economic,politics and culture. They have brought forwards some further suggestions. We can easily find a large number of papers researching the urbanization focused on the analysis of the urbanization courses and the different patterns. However, the research on different levels of the urbanization just got little attention and the papers exploring the causes and the impetus of the diversity in the process of the urbanization in different province which used dimension-based methods are really hard to find.There is a tremendous diversity among the levels of economic development in various provinces. The development of the industrial structure and the dominant industry are not on the same level, too. Because of the consideration of society, culture and history, there cannot be a uniform pace among different provinces. Therefore, we should analyze the reasons why diversities appeared among the regions with dynamic method and make further countermeasures according to the certain region and period.Based on the data from China Statistical yearbook (1991~2005) and China Population Statistical yearbook (1991~2005), this paper defines the population urbanization level, recalculating the real level of urbanization in various province.Then according to the definition of urbanization and the principle of index system design, the paper constructs a comprehensive urbanization index system. Also, we use Gray Correlation Analysis to select the key factors that affect the regional development of urbanization. Finally the result shows that, there were compositional functions of the social and the economic development that made the diversities appear in regional urbanization, including the development of the integrated economy, the industry and the 3rd industry which are the uppermost factors to impel the diversities in the process of urbanization. Because of the different policies in different areas, the factors which periodically affect the provinces'urbanization are also different.For the further analysis on the diversity of the urbanization in each province, this paper takes global PCA (global principal component analysis) on the time-serial solid data and builds a global PCA model to do a Factor-Analysis on each provinces'urbanization level. Finally, we disintegrate the complicate ingredients that affect the urbanization diversity into four factors----the factor of social development and social security, the factor of economic extroversion, the factor of nature resource and the factor of industrial structure. Then we use clustering analysis on the panel data in order to get the integrate score of 30 provinces'Factor-Analysis from the year 1990 to 2004. Following, we will illuminate the factors which cause the diversities onto the issue in a dynamic way.Finally, we take different countermeasures in allusion to these different characters in each province.
