Study On The Process Of Population Urbanization In Liaoning Province

Objectives:Focusing on the urbanization level and speed in Liaoning Province, the study analyses urbanization circumstances, regional urbanization variations and upgrading approaches in city level, by using using census data(2000, 2010) and Statistical Yearbook of Liaoning Province(2014). Further, we examine degrees of coordination and influential factors of population urbanization in Liaoning Province with quantitative method. Based on the qualitative and quantitative analysis, we investigate the issues in the progress of population urbanization in Liaoning province and put forward policy recommendations.Methodology:Under the guidance of demography theory, we describe the level, development, variation and updating approaches about the urbanization in Liaoning, employ multi-variable regression with SPSS to explore the factors that impact the population urbanization, and draw inferences about the relationship between economic development and urbanization from statistics evidence, by combining theoretical and empirical research method with quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis.Results:1. The process of urbanization in Liaoning have similar trend to that in China. The average urbanization development in Liaoning is higher than the national average since the founding of PRC. However, the difference is declining, because the urbanization speed in Liaoning slows down recently.2. According to census data, the average urbanization rate of Liaoning is 62.15% in 2010. Urbanization rates vary largely in cities, for example, the maximum level is 77.07% in Shenyang, and the minimum is 38.11% in Chaoyang.3. Over the period of 2000 to 2010, the population urbanization development in cities can be divided into three categories: high level cities including Shenyang, Fushun, Benxi, Dalian, Anshan and Panjin; Medium level cities containing Fuxin, Liaoyang, Yinkou and Dandong; low level cities involving Chaoyang, Huludao, Jinzhou and Tieling.4. The urbanization at city level is significant and positive related to city GDP, GDP per capita, the proportion of manufactory and severs industry, the average wage, disposable income rate, employment rate, and fixed assets investment, while significantly negative associated to the proposition of primary industry.5. GDP per capita is the main factor that affect the development of urbanization.6. The actual urbanization rate in seven cities(fourteen in total) is lower than the fitting rate estimated by multi-variable regression model, which implies that the urbanization level in these cities fall behind the economic development.7. From 2000 to 2010, population urbanization development path in Liaoning is mainly depends on the population to city concentration, instead of to town concertation.Conclusions:Using the qualitative and quantitative analysis, the thesis investigates urbanization development and influenced factors and find the conclusion remarks below:1. The urbanization in Liaoning has achieved a high level with a low speed recently, and the significant urbanization differences exist. Several cities have lower urbanization rate than province average, which even lags behind the economic growth.2. The regional effects and the impact of allocation of resources distributed base on regions are the main reason resulting in urbanization variations in coastal, western and eastern areas.3. Economic development factors are the most important factor for population urbanization development in Liaoning. According to the relationship between economic development and the level of urbanization of the population, these cities can be divided into four types.4. Approaches of city level population urbanization in Liaoning contains three forms: city centralization, town centralization and balanced centralization.
