This paper is based on the case study of the successful operation and management of Harbin TT School. It provides insight into some effective and practical ways to maintain competitive edge in the education industry. This paper is divided into two different parts, with the first part describing the case and the second part analyzing it. In the first part, a brief introduction to Harbin TT School, its reform in management mechanism, and its performance after the reform are demonstrated. In the second part, an in-depth analysis is made, by applying theories of strategic management and marketing, on the business environment the school faces after its reform. To be more specific, the author uses SWOT to analyze and evaluate the school's internal and external environment, its strengths and weaknesses, and the possible opportunities and threats it might face. The author then goes on to analyze and evaluate the school's internal management mechanism after its reform and to offer possible solutions. As the result of the above analyses and evaluations, countermeasures are suggested to promote the school's core competitiveness after its reform, so that the success of Harbin TT School may serve as a good example for other schools. In China, the mushroom growth of reformed school not only indicates that our education system is rapidly transforming from planned economy to market economy, but its impact on education, especially on basic education is breaking through the cliche existing in people's mind. The state that "formal education" takes priority over others and "period education determines people's life" are under change little by little. The far-reaching plan on the year 2010's education development of National Education Ministry includes that till 2010, China should realize the mutual development pattern of public school and reformed school so as to meet the demand of the era's development.
