The current experiment is in line with the three orientations of education decreed by Deng Xiaoping and"Three Represents"theorized by Jiang Zemin. It is also in accordance with the rationale of the National and Provisional Conference on the Elementary and Secondary Education, in which the initiative is given to the fast development of the bilingual educational program for non-han ethnic schools and narrowing the enhancement of the quality education in those schools. In addition, the experiment is a response to the implementation of the decree of"recognizing gaps, narrowing the gaps and attaining development", proposed by the Jilin Provincial Government. The objectives of the experiment is two folded: on the one hand, it is oriented to lay a theoretical foundation for the operation of the immersion bilingual education program by considering the factors like cognitive development, linguistic discrepancy, and students'readiness to accept the program. On the other hand, teaching content and procedures and educational models in the immersion bilingual education are explored. The aim of the experiment is to create a Chinese language environment in mathematical classes. The purpose is to foster the bilingual capability in understanding mathematical concepts and make use of those concepts in communication and thinking. The methodology is as followed: first, to compare the performance of the experimental class and control class with reference to the test results of the HSK; second, longitudinal study in the three academic years is conducted to compare the two classes with different teaching syllabus and methods. The scope of the experiment is as followed: first, to detect the influence of different mathematic terms in Korean and Chinese to the learners'learning effect. Second, to find the teaching strategies that should be adopted by teachers. Third, academic results from the experimental class and control class. The research results prove that the immersion bilingual education program fits the educational reform of the non-han ethnic schools. The program also promotes the overall elevation of the quality education and narrows down the gap in educational development between the language majority and minority groups. The author proposes that the program is not only fit for the mathematics class but also for other subjects of science.
