| China has always been a multi-ethnic and multi-lingual country. Historically, the communications between various ethnic groups were badly constrained by the geographical barriers and traffic inconvenience. With the development of economy, the communications have become easier and more frequent. And naturally, language education has become something that China has to deal with urgently. To equally develop the culture and the language of each ethnic group, ab modern-day bilingual education has become a must. Since its beginning, China’s bilingual education among ethnic minorities has made remarkable achievements, nevertheless, many problems have arisen in its course.Physics is a subject that requires the collaboration of observation, experiment and logical thinking. And it is the peculiarities of the students in the bilingual classes, the current state of fundamental education in Shayacounty, and the inherent properties of physics that have led to the current situation in physics teaching in bilingual classes in Shaya. Along with the numerous achievements made in the bilingual physics teaching in Shaya, some problems have emerged. And they will have a direct impact not only on the bilingual physics teaching, but also on the future of the whole bilingual education as well as its quality in Shaya. These problems are mainly as follows: the influence of educational administrations on the bilingual physics teaching, that is, defects in their understanding of the bilingual education, and the negligence of the role of the native language education in the bilingual physics teaching; negatives on the part of the bilingual physics teachers, namely, their low Chinese language proficiency, insufficiency of their professional knowledge, and their personal understandings of bilingual education; problems having to do with bilingual students’ living environment, their life experience and their interest in the bilingual physics class; the problem that physics, an innately difficult subject, had been made more difficult for the students with lower Chinese language level by the predominant use of Chinese language in a bilingual physics class. And all these problems ought to be tackled and solved.Shayacounty is located in Aksu prefecture, Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region. It sits in northern Tarim Basin, with the Tian Shan mountains to its north and the great b desert to its south. Shaya county is a remote region of Aksu prefecture, with a total area of 31887 square kilometers and a total population of 250000 people,of which Uighurs comprises 82.16 %, Hans 16.81%, and others 1.03%. Itspopulation consists of 23 ethnic groups such as Uighur, Han, Hui, Mongolian, and so on. Therefore, a lingua franca is necessary for the economy and education of this multi-ethic region. Hence, there is a high social and economic demand for the bilingual education. Presently, the bilingual education of Shayacounty is developing very fast and has born some fruits, in the meantime, it is being greatly challenged.By examining the principal measures being taken in order to enhance the educational quality in both primary and secondary bilingual schools in Shaya county and analyzing the accompanying problems, and taking Shaya No.3 middle school as a case, this thesis is aimed at seeking new educational methods and techniques suitable for the need of the school so as to improve the quality of its bilingual physics teaching, and is wished to serve as a reference and a theoretical basis in the pursuit of a educational pattern fitting the bilingual schools in Shaya. This thesis is composed of the following chapters: Chapter One is its preface;Chapter Two is "a analytical probe into the bilingual physics teaching among ethnic minority students"; Chapter Three is "an analysis of the factors affecting the quality of the bilingual physics teachings"; Chapter Four is "solutions to the problems in the bilingual physics teachings in Shaya"; Chapter Five is its conclusion. An experienced bilingual teacher, the author made a probe into the bilingual physics teachings in Shaya and found many problems, such as the students’ low Chinese language level, their inadequate mathematical knowledge, their disinterest in learning, the scarcity of biological teachers, low Chinese language level of the current teachers, imperfect understandings of the bilingual education on the part of the educational administration. And the corresponding solutions are as follows:(1) simulating students’ interest in physics;(2)attaching great importance to helping the students cultivate positive study habits;(3) raising the Chinese language level of the students and their mathematical abilities;(4) getting equipped with positive educational concepts, respecting students, and bringing teachers and students into harmony;(5)supplying more competent teachers... |
