American middle school history education has experienced great changes in past 20 years. In 1983, National Commission on Excellence in Education which affiliates to the American Ministry of Education made a report: A Nation at Risk: the Imperative for Educational Reform, which opened the new chapter of the reform of American education. In 1990, the American government promulgated: The goal of American Education, which pushed the education reform to the new stage. Goals 2000: Education American Act which had been made in 1994, was promulgated in 1996 after discussion and the revision. Afterwards, the government of the States formulated the corresponding curriculum standard according to the actual situation. From then on, the reform of American history education developed to the depth. Lots of elementary and middle school teachers practiced on course content, teaching method, teaching appraisal, obtained much new experience.This thesis is for the purpose of combing the basic vein of the development of American middle school history education, studying on the effect of middle school history education, the analysis of National History Curriculum Standard, the main links of the reform of middle school history education, and making the preliminary comment.The thesis is divided into three parts.The preface elaborates about the reason of study, the domestic and foreign research tendency and the research mentality.The author organizes the article in three chapters. Chapter one elaborates the necessity of the reform of middle school history education in the new situation, discusses the effects of history curriculum in the civil education, introduces the efforts of historians and the general middle school teachers on changing the position of history education in the middle school curriculum.Chapter two analyzes National History Curriculum Standard from background, content and effects.Chapter three introduces the practice advancement and the progress of the reform of middle school history education, around the main teaching links such as course content, teaching method and teaching appraisal.The conclusion is about the reconsideration of the reform of American history education and the summary of helpful enlightenment.
