A Probe And Analysis Of Migrant Workers' Fertility Desire

This thesis commences investigating the fertility desire of the migrant worker group, discussing some " modern" careers ,such as city and non-agricultural work experience, how to affect migrant worker's modernity growth,at the same time, it describes the appearance of the fertility desire of the migrant worker group,and finds the effective factors from the social structure.The migrant worker group lies between the farmer group who are traditional and citizenry group who are modern. Their immigrate and city experience,are considered to be helpful for their modernity growth.Fertility desire is one of the indexes which measure people's modernity.However, a lot of substantial evidence researches and the cases I did in this thesis all show a condition that in some aspects of the fertility desire of the migrant worker, especially on preference of son, are still traditional.In order to understand the childbearing intention, this thesis tries to find how the social structural factors affect the the migrant worker's fertility desire,then tries to find the limited function of migrant-work experience for the migrant worker's modernity growth in China.Nowadays, the condition of migrant worker's fertility desire lies between traditional and modern-they no longer want to have more children,but still prefer a son to a daughter.That condition inclines towards modern on the quantity and is still traditional on the gender partiality.The basic conclusion of this essay is, although the migrant worker have some modern careers, they cannot experience the core of modern life, the space of the modernity growth is not big enough,so the intention of son partiality has changed little.They live in the rim of the modern life, tradition is still very important for them,the cooperative power from the two directions make them feel strong differences from the citizen.Actively or passively.they draw a distinction between themselves and citizenry. The place they plan to live in the future is also swaying between the village and city, belonging to the traditional region or scene, make the preference of son necessary or safe.
