Education plays an important role in the growth and development of personality. The ultimate aim and value orientation of cultivating healthy personality is pursued all the time by educators and thinkers. Personality education is to build up students' mental quality that can make them get well with the modern society. The core of PE (personality education) is to help students obtain all-round personality. The aim of PE is to help students to become moral, learned, capable, as well as mentally healthy.Under the influence of the college entrance examination, schooling in our country tends to put more importance on academic training and neglect the molding of a healthy personality. Actually the status quo of students' personality in our country is far from satisfactory.PE for the students, especially that of the modern time, is quite urgent for the healthy growth and all-round development of the adolescent, let alone for the social development and modernization of our country. Personality attainment cannot be reached just by learning science and technology. It more relies on PE, in which reading literary classics is essential.Classic reading is an important teaching content and studying approach in middle school, which is rich in human spirit and culture connotation. Its function is to foster Chinese attainment, cultural capability, and fine spirit for the students. That is to say, PE should be accomplished through good classic reading.This thesis, with the topic of Classic Reading and Personality Education, will elaborate on how to cultivate personality through classic reading.The first chapter reviews the history of PE and its practical significance. Classic reading and the present situation of the teaching of classic reading are discussed in the second chapter. Relative theories of Humanism and Aesthetics of Reception being applied, chapter three elaborates on the instruction of classic reading and personality cultivation in classic reading. It bases on the textbook of Chinese for high school students and the demands of PE and the teaching of Chinese reading in the newly published High School Course Standard for Chinese Teaching.
