Language sense is a kind of foreign language aptitude. Language sense and thinking in foreign languages constitute the utmost expression of verbal ability. Verbal ability is a kind of language practice ability. It is the ability of using languages. Language sense cannot emerge without language practice. In order to foster students'language sense, a great amount of language practice should be carried out. However, teacher-centered teaching still dominates many English classroom teaching. This traditional"jug and mug"teaching mode is not good for the students to cultivate their language sense. This paper studies how to foster students'language sense in English teaching in middle schools so as to realize the aim of raising students'verbal ability.This paper explores a new foreign language classroom-teaching mode by way of an experiment on the fostering of middle school students'foreign language sense. After the comparison of the students'grades in experimental classes and in control classes, the teaching mode for fostering language sense is approved. This kind of mode is superior to the traditional teacher-centered mode. This is the direction for the development of foreign language teaching in the future. This paper makes recommendations on how to foster students'language sense in language teaching. It stresses the extension of foreign language teaching which can offer more opportunities for the students to get in touch with the society and nature, so as to enrich their experience of life and living.The experiment shows that during the process of cultivating the students'language sense, imparting the basic language knowledge is important. But what's more important is to lead the students to acquire the language by themselves. Reading aloud and reciting can not only improve the students'oral and written expressing abilities, but also can restore the written language back to the oral form and transform the language knowledge into language competence. Meanwhile, the students'personality development should be encouraged and their creative thinking should be fostered.
