What is called fast-reading is to find out the helpful information from given materials in a short time. The purpose of it lies in retting the reader increase the amount of reading in limited time, and search for the useful information from all kinds of reading materials. Here 'useful' refers to make active understanding of the reading materials through the keen ability of visual analysis, and anaylze the key fact, conclusion and concept, according to the logical process and key points, to incept the new information which can increase knowledge.Through the methods of document, questionnaire and comparison research, the paper probes the necessity of the research and practice of senior school modern essay reading training from the inquire of status of reading of senior school students, the possibility of research and practice, and coherence between fast-reading and new curriculum. Meanwhile, according to the research of fast-reading theory in China and abroad, the paper looks into senior school modern essay reading from the following seven points: (1) set up the gists of the fast reading training of modern essay in senior school.(2) the structure of modern essay in senior school.(3) the goals of modern essay in senior school.(4) the operational process of modern essay in senior school.(5) the principles of modern essay in senior school.(6) the reasonable resolution of the training. (7) the evaluation of consult of fast-reading.The procedure structure of fast-reading training refers to the combinational ways of basic elements of fast-reading training, and different ways form different training processes. According to 'teaching task of senior reading, the psyche of senior students, the basic elements of reading and the elements which affects the reading speed,' based on the recognition of 'reading in Chinese is to examine the characteristics and regulations of all kinds of styles,' reading training of senior school compose of two parts, including nine points. The first part, the basic training of fast reading ( (1) attention' s concentration, distribution and fixed training. (2) increase the training of recognition of lines. (3) training of fast - reading. (4) guess reading materials.) The second part, the fixed training of different styles.((1)the fixed training process of fast -reading of narration, (2)the fixed training process of fast-reading of explanation. (3) the fixed training process of fast reading of argument. (4) the fixed training process of fast -reading of novels.(5) the fixed training process of fast reading of lyricism essay.) In order to make every training operated directly, there is an example of each style.In order to make the training in a successive process, the paper makes this process into three interrelated stages, on the basis of understanding of all these nine points: reading for understanding in senior one, reading for enjoyment in senior two, and reading for evaluation in senior three. So different stages have different key points.On the foundation of theory research, according to the different nine points, in senior one, I made teaching practice about fast-reading of narration ,argument and explanation and made analysis about the result, then reflected the training process through the following things: (1)the comparison of reading speed ,reading comprehension and reading effect between the experimental class and comparative class before training.(2) the comparison of reading speed ,reading comprehension and reading effect between the experimental class and comparative class after one year' s training. (3) the change of reading effect for experimental students in the process of training .(4) experimental students' evaluation on fast-reading training.Teaching practice shows that the training of modern essay reading of senior school students makes the students master the different reading procedures of different styles, and improve the reading speed and reading quality; improve the students' memory, and develop their intellect; strengthen the students' ideation, and educate their keen reaction ; stimulate their interests in reading and activity; expand the reading amount and improve their quality and understanding in Chinese. Fast-reading training has much influence on the development of senior students' intellect and activity. During the time of education for examination, fast-reading training is an effective way to improve the ability of examination for the students.Reading in details, extensive reading and fast-reading have no subordinate relations and can not take the place of each other, but a parallel one. So they should be given equal attention in the process of training, because each of them burden a different reading task, and respectively show the depth of reading ,the width of reading and the speed of reading .Therefore every reader should master these integrating skills.
