In China, as the leading core of students' classroom life in school, class committee is considered as the main method of class management and the model of student group and gains much attention from teachers and students. However, with the development of education innovation and the increasing emphasis on student's life in the thought of class construction, the traditional function of class committee as teacher's assistant and model-student has been questioned. So how to explore the function of class committee in the classroom life under the new guidance of educational theory has become an inevitable question for the modern school innovators. Based on the above realization, this study explores the relevant theory studies and practices on class committee in China, discourses upon the quality and function of class committee and explores the realization mechanism of class committee's function transform.Concretely speaking, this essay is divided into the following three parts: In Part I, the paper tries to analyze the transform process of class committee's function from the historical dimension and the practical dimension. It begins with the discussion of the process, reasons and features of class committee's functional transform. The transform process lasts two periods. The first period is from 1945 to the end of 1970'. In that period, under the influences of the tradition officialdom-standard culture, the teacher-centered ideology, and Ma Kalian's collective educational thoughts, the class committee as management-tool was overwhelming, which was characterized by life-cadre system, elite theory, instrumentalism, and the lack of students' independency and individual consciousness. The second stage started from the beginning of 1980' and lasts until now. With the establishment of market economy system, cultivating the person with initiative esprit becomes the demand of the society. Meanwhile, changes emerge from the education system. Driven by the educational thoughts of subjectivity, democracy and autonomous, class committee tends to be more democratic, emphasizing on the subjectivity of students and the sense of being masters of students' own affairs. This change of class committee has been recognized and favored by more and more people. However, the construction of class committee is still restrained by the tradition of managerialism and lack of the consideration of student's life growth. In a word, the particular value of class committee in cultivating capable person still hasn't fully been explored.Besides, in order to find the starting point of this study, the end of Part I focuses on the experiment of New Elementary Education, discoursing on the investigative exploration of class committee in the experiment. In another words, the New Elementary Education concerns the growth of students' lives, viewing the building of class committee as a practical realm of students' growth. Enlightened by these points the paper finds new space to study the problem: re-acquaintance of the quality and function of class committee under the point of the growth of student-life.Based on the above ideas of New Elementary Education, the paper re-acquaints the quality of class committee and discourse upon the class committee's function to student cadre and students group relatively in detail in Part II. With the only child times' arrival, the requirements of high quality of future citizens and the appearance of peculiar value of student organization, the innovation of class committee is imperative. The paper suggests that, as the guidance of class culture and spirit, class committee is the leader of students group; besides, it is the core power of classroom life and has the "First among equals" relationship with accessorial posts. The core power depends not only on the personal quality of certain class committee members but also on the special status of class committee. According to the new recognition of class committee's quality, the paper proves two particular values of class committee. The first is that class committee is benefit for the formation of students' qualities, such as forming the basic qualities of modern citizen through communication with classmates, forming management ability through collective activities, forming positive character through acting as cadre roles, and so on. The other is that class committee has the function of leading the direction of class group's value and behavior.In Part III, the paper analyze the cases from the experimental class committee in the New Elementary Education experiment, exploring the realization mechanism of class committee's function transform from aspects of teachers' mind, class organization, appraises system and collective activity. Concretely speaking, teachers should change the mind of single-dimension elite to multi-dimension elite, change the framework of organization from dyadic section tier into flat network, and shift the life-cadre system into the rotation system.
