Ye Shengtao, a famous educator in our country, once said, "Teaching is for no teaching." According to the cognitive laws of psychology, whether the whole education succeeds or not depends on the development of students' ability of self-study. And it is from the books that we begin to develop the students' ability of self-study because students get knowledge from the book first. So, aiming to develop students' ability to study mathematics themselves, it is the most important sector to teach students how to read books, to help students form good habits of reading, especially to teach students to understand the text books. In mathematics teaching, teachers don't pay much attention to the teaching of mathematical reading. Students haven't formed the habit of mathematical reading. Vocational students are usually lack of the ability and the habit to read the mathematics text book. In their opinion, reading text books is not their business, but the teachers'. It is enough for them to listen to the teacher. They just regard the text book as an exercises collection, never read the text. Even if the teacher requests them to read the mathematics text, students just have a look at it and then put it aside. They can not find out the key points, the essence of the text, problems and can not put up creative views on it. So, in order to improve the teaching quality, in order to change the students' attitude from hating study to liking study, the students should have the ability to read independently at first, which means that students have to grasp some reading methods. And if the students want to get certain methods and form good habits of reading, it is necessary for teachers to develop students' reading ability. This research is carried out in five steps, including questionnaires for the students, interview with some students, primary test of students' mathematical reading ability, analysis of the results, related theories. The researcher tries to develop students' mathematical reading ability in the teaching process. By doing so, the researcher wants to find out suitable teaching strategies for the teaching of mathematical reading in class, to strengthen students' autonomy, to arouse students' interest, and then to improve the teaching quality. The paper aims to offer an effective learning and teaching strategies to the vocational students and teachers.
