With the advent of the information era, various kinds of information is related to reading, which has became one of the basic ways for people to gain knowledge and information. Correspondingly, mathematics reading ability has gradually became an essential ability for people in the modern information society to obtain knowledge and keep lifelong learning. In actual teaching, however, mathematics reading hasn't been paid much attention because of the long-term traditional exam-oriented education's influences , leading to the unsatisfactory situation of students' reading habits and abilities at present. Therefore, to understand the status quo of junior school students in mathematics reading and analyze the problems and reasons, is of great significance for teachers to take appropriate and effective measures to cultivate the students' mathematics reading.First of all, the literature analysis method is used in this paper. Related concepts are given definitions such as mathematical reading and mathematical reading ability on the basis of searching a lot of information about mathematical reading research.Secondly, 218 students of Grade Seven and Eight in our school, as well as 8 teachers are chosen to conduct questionnaire survey and personal interview. Moreover, living examples reflecting some students' reading situation are collected from their homework and textbooks. The fact of carefully counting and analysing the survey and interview results and the examples is mainly to know junior students'mathematical reading situation so as to propose some strategies of improving the junior students' mathematical reading ablility accordingly.According to the findings, these exist the following problems in junior students'mathematical reading or learning. First, junior students have a vague and incomplete understanding of mathematical reading and the impact of mathematical reading on mathematical learning. Second, junior students' movitation of mathematical reading is not good enough. They always have the tendency of passive reading and most of them do some mathematical reading at the request of their teachers and parents.Third, junior students' methods and habits of mathematical reading are not as expected. Many students conduct mathematical reading with the method of reading literary works which is improper and doesn't work well because mathematics reading materials have certain discipline characteristic. Fourth the situation of extracurricular mathematical reading in junier school students is not ideal. Many students even have no experience of extracurricular mathematical reading. Moreover, extracurricular mathematics reading materials are inadequate.Maths teachers are the main guide of students in learning mathematics. The personal interview with the 8 maths teachers reveals that they have a relatively optimistic understanding of the roles and methods of mathematics reading. Therefore,it is proposed in this article that teachers should make the students' instructors in mathematics reading and exercise this reaching ability in the daily teaching activities. Finally, on the basis of survey and analysis , with related theories into combination, and taking the writers' own teaching experience into consideration, it is proposed that junior students' mathematics reading ability can be cultivated from the following aspects: (1) Using the textbook ; (2) Improving their self-learning ability by "reading" first and then teaching; (3) Cultivating their ability to use maths by paying attention to applied question teaching; (4) Motivating the students to give a speech within the first three minutes before the lesson so as to foster students'learning interest; (5) Encouraging students to write their reading reflections; (6)Organizing interest groups of mathematical reading and holding various kinds of assessment activities.
