Local geographical education contributes to helping the students to know the geographical features of their native place, to understand their native place, to familiarize themselves with their native place, to love their native place and effectively serve their native place with the knowledge they have acquired from the education.Local geography is a comprehensive curriculum of new thoughts, which takes the local geography as the axis while embracing local history, local language and culture, local music, local biography etc as its components. It aims at turning out qualified citizens by relying on the local characteristic features to display the local splendors so that they will effectively serve the social economic and cultural constructions of the local regions.The most desirable carrier of education based on local conditions is the local geography. This article treats of the compilation of the teaching material of local geography and its teaching activities and ultimately its educational practical functions. It sums up the characteristic features of the local geographical teaching, material, its innovation angle and its compilation principles, and at the same time it points out that the local geographical teaching method should advocate that in class the students take their own individual initiatives in study while actively participating in collective studies and, in outdoor activities, it is advocated that the students should take research activities as their action of first choice so they can probe into new fields. Meanwhile, the four main educational practical functions are refined, namely, "the promotion function for the students' development," "the service function to the society," "the development function of curriculum resources," "the supporting function to the comprehensive practical curriculum."By combining theory with practice, researching through actual evidence, applyingthe most extensively used educational scientific research method - questionnaire,Fuzhou Geography has been chosen as the target of study. A questionnaire of Fuzhou Geography with the analysis of its result.was conducted, and Fuzhou Geography was proved to be the best text book of "Love the motherland, Love the hometown, Love Fuzhou", to be a good tool for the construction of the Economic Zone on the West Bank of the Taiwan Strait. It has also been proved to be helpful for the school-based curriculum, to be a desirable carrier of activity curriculum, and a good reference book for inquiry learning.
