With the application and development of Multi-media computer technologies, foreign language teaching sees its new opportunities and challenges. Foreign language teachers find it necessary to think about ways to build up a better language teaching and learning environment supported by multimedia-technique.As language teachers, we cannot ignore the definite need to reform our teaching strategies and methods. The majority of language teachers must now begin to think about the implications of computers for language learning. Computer Assisted Language Learning, or CALL, has become increasingly popular within the foreign language domain. Researchers proclaim the benefits of computer assisted foreign language instruction (Wyatt, 1984; Dunkle, 1987; Al-Arishi, 1994; Garrett and Hart, 1989). Based on the analysis of the features of MCALL, this paper discusses the necessity and feasibility of Multimedia computer technology being applied in the foreign language teaching and learning .The article also discusses the roles and requirements of being a modern foreign language teacher. Through the literature review and the study conducted by the writer among 110 middle school students, the writer concludes that in middle school it is necessary and feasible to use multimedia computer technology to aid foreign language teaching and learning. CALL is proved to be able to: Make learning and teaching more student-centered Cultivate learners'competence l Uplift students'motivation and arouse learners'interests l Make the study of foreign language more efficient with more input within certain time.
