The Construction Of Social Memory For Muslim Cyber-community

Based on the empirical research on BBS of the Chinese Muslims website, This study attempted to manage the constructive strategies of social memory for Muslim community and the unique features that it has presented;Meanwhile, tried to seize the central role that the constructed social memory of the network Muslim has played to gather the ethnicities' identity through ritual communication in such a special field of cyberspace. Finally had some findings as follow:1. In the virtual community of Muslims, The construction of memory is a interactive process among social memory, collective memory and historical memory. But in this overall complexity, The discussion about the customs, taboos, morals and believes Etc that spread through ethnic life's every corner and filled up all aspects of daily life is the main type of social memory in Muslim community, appeared frequently on the interactive discussions of participants, It has shaped the simple but heavy ownership feelings, and also helped to build the ethnic identity among the members of Muslims community.2. Due to the attribute of participatory and interaction, the ritual communication in cyberspace provided special interactive patterns, scenes and symbols to the construction of social memory for network Muslim community, therefore, it provided a broad and vivid scenes of time and space.3. In such a cyberspace that the ritual communication occupied the dominant position of community, The considering about their status, development, and conflicts are all based on the personal feelings, experience, and objective fact-based, meanwhile, they placed these considering under the whole background of society and culture;and in process of discussion, in order to proof themselves, they often quote lots of the ancient works and famous words that some well-known people has been told;Besides, the participation to all kinds of activities that occurred from network to reality, again reality to network, are all often used strategies that they constructed their social memory, and strengthen the process of ethnic identity.4. The process of the construction of social memory for the Muslim community is full of competition of power. Macrocosmically, It performed the struggling for voice between the Han culture that stand the main position and the ethnicity culture that stand the marginal position;Microcosmically, it performed the sustained arguments about all kinds of specific issue among various participants that have different perspective and advisement.
