The exercise system is a very important component part of Chinese textbooks.It is permeated with some specific concepts at three levels including Chinese curriculum, Chinese textbook and Chinese instruction, which can strongly influence Chinese education.Consequently, whether the exercise system of Chinese textbooks can be designed superiorly in this aspect has an important bearing on the result of Chinese education. On the basis of the relevant achievements in research aimed at the exercise systems of Chinese textbooks, and through the initial study of the relevant theory at three levels including Chinese curriculum, Chinese textbook and Chinese instruction, this thesis constructs a framework for analysing the exercise systems of Chinese textbooks, and then at the above-mentioned levels comparatively study the exercise systems of two series of Chinese textbooks for junior middle schools of People's Education Press edition around the promulgation of Chinese Curriculum Standard. The analytical result shows that on the whole, the exercise systems of the two series of Chinese textbooks have moved a step forward in many fields than those in the past. At the same time,they also have many defects, which mainly embody how they deal with the three dimensions of the objectives of curriculum and instruction. Both the two series of textbooks (especially the new-edition textbooks) can't integrate the three dimensions in harmony. Their parochial favour to the dimension of motion, attitude and values results in the situation that this dimension can't bring along the two others as a whole. Thereby the development of this dimension itself is restricted in the long run. By comparision, this is another extreme way contrary to that of the textbooks in the past.On the whole, there is no substantial difference between the exercise systems of the two series of textbooks. Besides the misunderstandings of many fields of the new educational concepts, to some extent, they also embody and cater to the new educational concepts only in form, and haven't been compiled and designed meticulously and steadily to implement the advanced educational concepts. Moreover, there are many other problems. In brief, the design of the exercise system of Chinese textbooks should make slower and steadier progress, and get more conscientious research.
