Nowadays, when quality education is advocated, individualizing teaching is one of the topics of general interest both in educational theory and practice. This essay advances some new approaches, which are based on the existing research of individualizing teaching theory, linked with my own teaching practice and aimed at the problems in teaching ancient style poems and articles in high schools.Individualizing teaching develops students thinking and their creative ability in all areas. It must have the prerequisite of perfecting the students knowledge, yet respect fully their existing individuality. Independent study is the basic principle of individualizing teaching.Reviewing the historical ideas on individualizing teaching and examining theory and practical experience of the contemporary Chinese educators, we can understand the substantial content of individualizing and find a suitable starting point.The author has designed a series of individualizing teaching tactics directed at helping students understand ancient style poems and articles in a contemporary setting. The author also emphasizes the reform of classroom instruction, and raises the creative "seven-step-leading-reading method" of lecture lessons, and the "independent analysis method" of self-study lessons, which directs the students focus to analyzing the material presented. This brings a fresh vitality to teaching, stimulating the students and developing their personality. Validated by years of teaching practice, it is effective and quite practical.
