The classical writings in the middle school Chinese textbooks contain much Confucian personality ideology that can be drawn on as excellent materials for quality education in middle schools. This thesis discusses the Confucian personality cultivation in middle school Chinese teaching through the perspectives of personality theory and pedagogy on the basis of the analysis of reality of the middle school Chinese teaching in China. Then it states the significance, strategies and prospect of the Confucian personality cultivation in the middle school Chinese teaching.This thesis consists of three parts.The first part defines the terms personality and "personality cultivation" after reviewing the personality theories both in China and in the West. Quality education is personality cultivation in a sense. Middle school Chinese plays an important role in the quality education because Chinese teaching carries the task of personality cultivation. So it's an important problem in the field of modem Chinese teaching and research how to make good use of the classical writings in the middle school Chinese textbooks, how to interpret the Confucian personality ideology from the modern perspective and how to make it part of the middle school students' personality.The second part analyses the Confucian ideology in middle school Chinese textbooks and classifies it into five categories: humanity and love, honest and self-control, generosity, helpfulness and independent struggle. They are the core of Confucian personality ideology and the important points in our Chinese teaching.The third part discusses the strategies and methods of personality cultivation. Personality cultivation in middle school Chinese teaching is supposed to be implemented through learning from Confucius as a teacher and through Confucian teaching approach. However, Confucian personality ideology is classic. How to make it a meaningful recourse in modern personality cultivation? Whether it is successful or not lies in the middle school Chinese teachers' teaching work and their own behavior. As a result, the teachers are required to master personality theories and to develop well in personality practice.
