| English has become an international language in the rapid developing world because of using by most countries and becomes more and more important as a tool of communication. Because of this, English has become one of the main courses in senior schools as Chinese and Maths. The quality of English teaching has great influences upon the students'graduation and admission, even upon their future jobs and life. During my English teaching, a distinct gap—un-connecting, appears in the academic stage between the junior English and the senior English teaching during the development and growth of students. We can acknowledge that it is universal to remain a big gap of consistency in English teaching and learning from junior to senior high schools. This kind of un-connecting brings students difficulties and obstacles for them in English learning. The transition seems especially important to bridge the gap between the junior and the senior English teaching and a smoother transition will further promote the overall quality of English teaching. To find the causes of the poor consistency, the author makes surveys and conducts an overall and deep analysis from the physiological and psychological point of view and explores the solutions of the problems from junior to senior high schools.Quxian Middle school includes not only junior high school but also senior high school. The survey is conducted from five aspects, including vocabulary, teaching methods, learning approaches, grammar, reading comprehension and students'interesting etc. The questionnaire is applied to find out the English learning situation of students, English teaching situation of English teachers and reasons of the existing teaching problems so as to get the factual information for the research on the consistency in English between junior and senior high schools. This thesis analyses the aims of teaching, teaching methods, educational materials and learning strategies between junior and senior high schools, and the students'physiological and psychological problems.Based on the features of Quxian Middle School and the existing problems about the consistency in English teaching between junior and senior high schools, the thesis analyses the causes of the problems and tries to seek for the solutions. As for the problems in the course of teaching, the solutions are sought from psychological education, teaching and learning approaches and so on. Firstly, teachers should change their teaching concept, strengthen the recognition of the connection and improve the professional development. Secondly, teachers should pay close attention to their students, get to know their psychological problems, guide students in learning methods and help them form autonomous learning ability gradually. Thirdly, teachers should use proper teaching strategies to strengthen the transition of teaching methods between junior and senior English teaching and help form good learning habits of students. Fourthly, teaching materials between junior and senior high school should be linked smoothly and gradually, and the compliers of the English textbooks should establish basic concept and strengthen the transition of English teaching content. Fifthly, it is necessary to reform and improve the present evaluation system and means. The last part is a conclusion and some limitations in this research. |
