Abstract/Summary:
Since the foundation of language subjects, academic researches on teaching writing in middle schools have not been interrupted, but most studies have been confined to a summary of experience on composition teaching and the innovative teaching methods of composition. A small number of researches upon the theory of teaching composition in middle schools either confuse it with grammatology or can not be form a system. Therefore, we will induce the theory of teaching writing in middle schools since the founding our nation, aiming to accurately grasp the system of development and the laws.Under the premise of having collecting a large number of relative researches on the theory of teaching writing in middle schools, this paper divides the development course of teaching writing in high schools after the founding of PRC into four periods:the period of exploration and foundation (1949-1965), the period of frustration and recovery (1966-1980), the period of development and improvement (1981-1999). the period of reform and transition (21st century). And from the social background of each period, we talk about the content, characteristics and the pattern in the syllabus of teaching language in middle schools, presenting a systematic clue in the development of the theory of teaching writing in middle schools in the past sixty years, theoretically and strategically.This paper falls into six parts, and the main contents explained in various parts of are as follow:The first part is the introduction. This part defines the relative concepts of the theory of teaching writing in middle schools, analyzes the significance of the study upon theories and current situation of teaching writing in middle schools and explains the research methods used in the process of this study.The second part deals with the theory of writing in secondary schools in the period of exploration and foundation. This section starts from the historical background from 1949 to 1965. summarizes the two most influential theories of teaching writing in the middle school in that period of time:public mode of discourse and pragmatic mode of discourse, and finds out from the strategic level the existing the pattern in the syllabus of teaching language in middle schools.The third part concerns the theory of writing in secondary schools in the period of frustration and recovery. This part is concluded in the time period from 1966 to 1980. In the period of recovery, the teaching theory from a practical view was restored, when the basic knowledge about writing became the mainstream theory of writing in secondary schools.The fourth part handles the theory of writing in secondary schools in the period of development and improvement. The part deals with the time period from 1981 to 1999. Due to the impact of the theory of writing in the new era, theories of teaching writing in secondary schools during this period include the theory of training, the theory of process and the theory of body.The fifth part deals with the theory of writing in secondary schools in the period of reform and transition. The time period in this part is after 2000, the starting of a new round of curriculum reform provides a greater space for the development of theories of teaching writing in the middle school. A wide range of teaching methods and theories of composition have one thing in common:focusing on the mind of entity of composition and improving the quality of students' writing. Therefore, the education theory of composition quality and the activity theory of composition practice have become the mainstream theories.The sixth part deals with the clue in the development of the theory of teaching writing in middle schools after the founding of PRC. This part concludes the laws of development in the theory of teaching writing after the founding of PRC from the horizontal and vertical aspects:from the dominance of a single theory to the coexistence of pluralistic and multi-dimensional theories, from plain education to multi-dimensional development, and from focus on writing skills to the construction of spiritual emotions.
