A Study On Urban Community Volunteer Service Development In China

At the Turn of Society, the social functions separated from disintegration of unit system and the public service functions from the reform in government organazation have been tranformed to community. Community has become an important public service carrier to the urbans. There are many deficiencies for government and market in the provision of community service, and community volunteer service can make up for this deficiency. Developing community volunteer service will enhance good-neighborly relations in community and promote community harmony. Moreover, as non-profit organizations, community volunteer organizations has greater advantages than market and government in providing public services. With the accelerated process of urbanization, the population aging, smaller families, more mobile population and other factors, urban communities are in the growing demand for public service. However, at present urban community volunteer service has encountered many difficulties.This paper introduces the development course of China's urban community volunteer service as well as that of Nanning city with the aim of finding the barriers to the development of community volunteer service and offering related solutions.
