Facing a very high mountain, we are often startled from the bottom of our heart , but when we are startled, we always feel that the discourse is powerless. As a great thinker, Nietzsche is like such a high mountain. His fierce stroke is like a tactful stream, washing the whole thought history of the Western. We often say that Nietzsche is an anti-traditional thinker, but behind this statement, how we should understand the question of"anti-tradition"itself is an interesting question, because it relates to the essence of Nietzsche's thought. To some extent, Nietzsche's criticism of rationalism and the abuse of Christianity mask the inherent essence of Nietzsche's thought. He turned to look back and saw Greece, and his gaze was across the millennium, so should we pursue his gaze and grasp the origin of his gaze? The footprint is not difficult to trace, we find that the starting point of Nietzsche's thought is the modern times, he started from the modern times and cast his sharp eyes over the entire history of the West, his criticism of Socratic onset of the traditional and metaphysical rationalism and his reveal of the nature of the Christianity that is to kill life all responded to the modern times. We start exactly from this and the relationship between Nietzsche's thought and modernity to further understand the meaning of Nietzsche's thought as well as the significant influence of Nietzsche's thought on the other thinkers of the later period, which is also the main ends of the paper. The paper is divided into five parts, illustrating the reasons of Nietzsche's criticism of modernity, the content of the criticism of modernity, and the influence of his criticism on modernity. The first part of the paper is to analyze the reasons of Nietzsche's anti-modernity, explaining the meaning of modernity, the characteristics of modernity. The secongd part is to analyze the relationship between modernity and Platonism. Nietzsche thought that the question of modernity is the result of the development of Platonism, and Nietzsche's mission is to subvert Platonism completely, which also means to criticize modernity. The third part of the paper is to introduce Nietzsche's criticism of Christianity, rational metaphysics, modern science, modern art and modern politics. The fundamental view of Nietzsche's criticism of Christianity is that the emergence of the crisis of modernity is the inevitable result of the crisis of the faith in Christianity. By saying"God is dead", Nietzsche metaphorically refers to the emergence of the crisis of value arising from the loss of faith. Nietzsche criticizes the mixed state of value, analyzes the value of Christianity and the evolution of moral by applying the method of genealogy, points out the necessity of the appearance of modern crisis, at The fourth part is to analyze that people should love life, love worldly life, realize self-transcendence, and re-establish the value of a secular world-the value of"Superman".The last part of the paper is to mainly introduce Nietzsche's enormous influence on contemporary political philosophy, the critical theory of society, Heidegger's existentialism and postmodernism.A major theme of the contemporary philosophy can be said a theme about people, mostly about human values and moral issues. Postmodernism's criticism of modernity as well as its emphasize on differences of ethical values are thought explorations trying to break through the issue of modernity, and Heidegger's existential thought tries to overcome the crisis of modernity by pursuing the significance of existence. Throughout, we can easily find that"an important understanding of contemporary philosophy is to respond to the challenge of Nietzsche", which can be the beginning.
