Study On Zhong Jingwen's Folk Literature And Art Thoughts

Zhong Jingwen is a famous folklorist and folk artist in China. Under the influence of the ideological trend of May Fourth Movement and the Ballad Study Movement of Peking University, he had a great interest to the folk literature. He began to collect folk literary works such as ballads and folk stories. From then on, he set foot on a plebeian academic road. In his academic career of more than 80 years, he has been devoted to building the folk literature and art with Chinese characteristic all the time. In order to achieve their academic dreams, he focused on the theoretical investigation and the establishment of the research team of folk literature. In almost one century, he regarded establishing human culture as the supreme goal. He studied hard, overcame difficulties, and founded two branches of Chinese folklore and folk art at last.However, the main investigation to the thought of Zhong Jingwen is periodic and single-angled and lack of systematic investigation in Chinese educational circles. This text is expected to describe his overall thought based on two angles of longitudinal and horizontal. Select his influential articles and books focus on analysis in the horizontal angle and integrate point and sphere to show a comprehensive, real Zhong Jingwen under a new integrated perspective. This article discusses and summarizes his thinking of folk literature profoundly.The first part makes a comprehensive discussion to the development of his folklore experience and ideas in the vertical angle. The author restores the external thought that he accepted and his inherent thinking in order to excavate the true formation of Zhong Jingwen's folk literature theory. The author holds that the theory system of Zhong Jingwen's folk literature is a continuously improving process, which is an open system. He follows the model of western subjects and searches the scientific method and content hardly. He absorbs the historical evolutionism of the Britain anthropological school, the structural-functional theory of the France sociological school, and the positivism style of the Japanese school. In combination with the study of general literature theory and the absorption of Marxism, his ideology become more mature.Through the research of decades, Zhong Jingwen constructs the folk literature discipline system which is suitable for the China's actual conditions finally.In the second part,the author has a panoramic view of ideological system of Zhong Jingwen's folk literature from the horizontal angle. Besides, the author analyzes it profoundly applying microcosmic constructing type. The author starts from the definitions of the discipline and lay the foundation for the framework. Then, the author analyzes several important categories of his folk literature, which clearly establish the specificity of Folk Literature and the value of independent existence. After that, the author sums up his methodology as three levels to reconstruct the inherent system of the Zhong Jingwen's ideology. At last, his planning and completion to folk literature has been investigated macroscopically from the peripheral angle of discipline building.The last part localized the theoretical contributions and historical position of Zhong Jingwen. Moreover, the author puts forward my own view on the situation and development of Chinese folk literature. Combing to Zhong Jingwen's academic course and folk literature thought, we have review the academic histories of Chinese folk literature discipline from beginning to mature. It facilitates us to probe into the development and experience of Chinese folk literature.
