As an important part of Chinese vocabulary,polysyllabic words began to appear in the Eastern Han Dynasty.This thesis takes the coordinative disyllabic words in Jiao Shi Yi Lin as the main research objects. The author tries to describe and analyze them comprehensively and systematically from the aspects of composition and development, and reveal their basic visage and features of development, by adopting a research method of the combinations of synchronic and the diachronic perspectives, integrated survey and typical analysis.The thesis is composed of four parts:Chapter One is an introduction, which briefly introduces Jiao Shi Yi Lin, the previous studies on its vocabulary, studies on the polysyllabic words of the pre-Qin period and Han Dynasty and the usage of polysyllabic words in the book.Chapter Two is a description to the fundamental composition of coordinative polysyllabic words in Jiao Shi Yi Lin, form the four aspects of: part of speech, sense relation, sense type and sense status, presenting the basic visage of coordinative polysyllabic words in the book.Chapter Three is theoretical framework, The author analyzes the coordinative disyllabic words in Jiao Shi Yi Lin from the aspects of inheritance and development, by adopting a research method of the combinations of synchronic and the diachronic perspectives, integrated survey and typical analysis. In addition, the author gives a detailed and all-around description to the allotropic form in the book by comparing their meanings and usages, finding out that the inner structures of the allotropic words are non-preformed and the word order is not fixed.Chapter Four tries to prove that Jiao Shi Yi Li is written in the Eastern Han Dynasty from the perspective of vocabulary, by analyzing the development and variety of the sense and usage of some high frequency words in the pre-Qin period appeared in Jiao Shi Yi Li and ancient books and records in the Eastern Han Dynasty. The conclusion part sums up the features of the coordinative disyllabic and polysyllabic words used frequently in Jiao Shi Yi Lin.
