The Wei-Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasty is a violent social change stage as well as a crucial time in the development history of Chinese. The pace of disyllabic and polysyllabic words accelerated significantly. Sou Shen Ji(搜神记)is the representative work of novels in classical Chinese and mystery stories during Wei and Jin periods, is regarded as the significant literature datum for us to research Medieval Chinese. Twenty volumes we have found so far is, not the original work, compiled by later generations. In this paper, Sou Shen Ji is recollected, identified and compiled by Li Jianguo, based on the old works original Sou Shen Ji and epilogue of Sou Shen Ji. According to the writer’s research, the language studies on Sou Shen Ji(新辑搜神记)are still needed a deep research in academic circles at present, therefore it is meaningful to carry on the research of disyllabic and polysyllabic words systematically and comprehensively, Which not only can add medieval vocabulary study material, but also can generalize the difference between original Sou Shen Ji and Sou Shen Ji and the features and developing laws of double-syllable words in MC.The thesis consists of five chapters:the first chapter is about the literature review on the disyllabic and polysyllabic words and set four classification criteria about it with referential classification criteria of academic field; The second chapter is about the comprehensive research on disyllabic and polysyllabic words classification in Sou Shen Ji and analyzes the features one by one, study the Polysyllabic function words and count the number; The third chapter is the comparative study of disyllabic and polysyllabic words in Sou Shen Ji and that in different historical periods. And then summarizes the developing characteristics of disyllabic and polysyllabic words from ancient to modern times and reveals it in Wei-Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasty is a turning point and a crucial time in the development history of Chinese; The fourth chapter points out that the Sou Shen Ji is much closer to the age when Gan Bao wrote the book through the comparative analysis of the Sou Shen Ji and the original Sou Shen Ji.
