Abstract/Summary:
This thesis which based on numerous reality-based corpuses has made a comprehensive study and analysis on adverbial of modern Chinese from the general rule, the phenomenon of transposition as well as the formation mechanism of adverbial.Firstly this thesis reviews the present research situation of modern Chinese adverbial, and adopts a basic method which takes the predicate as center to classify adverbial semantic category. The adverbial is divided into seven categories. It has studied the three positions of single adverbial in detail which are at the head of the sentence, between the subject and the verb, at the end of the sentence, analyzed the transposition of the individual adverbial, and found the general word order mechanisms of single adverbial and factors which influence transposition. Then it focuses on the study of the general rule of multiple adverbial's word order. When studying multiple adverbial, it analyzes different patterns of composition in accordance with the nature of adverbial, and comes to its general rule. It also deeply analyzes the phenomenon of vacillation of partial adverbial's word order. This thesis applies modern linguistic theories to explain the formation mechanism of multiple adverbial's word order, and points out the principles that impact the word order. Finally it analyzes the semantic relationships among the adverbial elements, gives an in-depth analysis of adverbial word order with functionalism, and comes up with the conclusion that the cognitive psychological factors are the fundamental ones which affect adverbial's word order of modern Chinese.The paper is divided into four parts: 1.The overview of previous research on adverbial, 2.The study of single adverbial's regularity, 3.The analysis of multiple adverbial's word order and the formation mechanism, 4.Conclusion.
