Adjustment Of Adverbiafs Word Order In Articles Of Science And Technology In English-Chinese Translating

The material used in this paper excerpted from a report of the Antarctic OceanAlliance, which suggests to creat a network of marine protected areas(MPAs) andno-take marine reserves in19specific areas in the Southern Ocean around Antarctica.The report entitled Antarctic Ocean Legacy: A Vision for Circumpolar Protection.The author chose the fifth to twentieth pages to translate. This paper mainly explainsadverbials’ and adverbial clauses’ adjustment of word order in English-Chiesetranslation. This paper is consisted of four parts that are task description, processdescription, case analysis and conclusion, among them case analysis is the mostimportant part. Case analysis is made of two parts, one is adjustment of adverbial’sword order that includes adverbial of time, adverbial of place, adverbials of reason,adverbial of purpose and adverbial of concession, the other one is adjustment ofadverbial clause’s word order which is consisted of adverbial clause of cause,adverbial clause of concession and adverbial clause of condition. The theory of thispaper is Hans Vermeer’s Skopos. This theory advocates that purposes of translationdetermine methods and strategies of translating, and translating should regards targetlanguage as its objective orientation. Through translating the material and writing thispaper, the author believes a good translation should conforms to the linguistic habitsof target language and readers’ reading expectation.
