In the nineteenth century, the Christian Protestant missionaries seized a scries of unequal treaties which were signed after the Opium Wars and came to China to preach and run schools. By the use of spreading western science and technology in the process of preaching the gospel to the Chinese, whether to teach English became the debating focus of many missionaries in china. As the complex and unique factors in china, the English teaching was the general trend. Fu Zhou, as one of the first open trading ports, was the forward positions of the missionaries. In the end of 19th century, almost all the Fu Zhou Missionary schools had opened English courses. Among them, Foochow Anglo-Chinese College, Foochow College and Foochow Trinity College were the three famous religious schools in Fu Zhou. They had their own special English teaching methods. The students who graduated from the three religion schools all had a high level of English. The English teaching in Fu Zhou Missionary schools had a wide and deep influence on the Fu Zhou society. They had trained a large number of western-style talents for Fujian. The English teaching experiences of those schools provided the theories and practice of references.
