Parental rearing Patterns are parents'relatively stable styles of their attitudes and behaviors which are formed while rearing their children. Student coping styles are concrete problem solving ways succeeding cognitive evaluation in the process of stress.Different parental rearing patterns result in individual's coping styles ,both of which influence the students'mental development.Therefore ,not only parental rearing patterns but also students'coping styles play important roles in the development of students'mental health.This study is carried out in the two rural senior high school in Baise,GuangXi.554 students were investigated with EMBU scale,CSQ,SCL-90.The results are shown in the following:1. Rural senior high student'parental rearing patterns have remarkable differences by sex and gender.(1)Boys suffer more from fathers'punishment, severity, rejection, denial or depreciation.This is no remarkable differences between boys and girls in mothers'rearing patterns.(2)Senior 1 students experience more from fathers'overinterference than Senior 2 and 3 students;Senior 1 and 2 students suffer more from fathers'punishment,severity or overprotec- tion and also more from mothers'overinterference,overprotection,rejection,denial and punishment.2. Rural senior high student'coping styles have remarkable differences by sex and gender.(1)More boys take a positive ways of solving problems,while more girls take a passive attitude such as avoidance or letting out grievances.(2)More Senior 1 students adopt passive coping styles such as avoidance,letting out grievance and positive styles of seeking support,while less Senior 3 students adopt styles of solving problems and endurance.3.Different Parenting Patterns have different influence on the mental health of rural senior high school students.The more emotional support and understanding they get from parents,the better mental health status the students have. On the other hand, the more punishment,severity, overinterference, detage, rejection, denial, depreciation or overprotection they suffered from their parents,the worse mental health status the students have .4.Different Coping styles influences the rural high students'mental health level.Students with better mental health status mainly adopt positive coping style such as solving problem.They rarely adopt passive coping styles such as letting out grievances,illusion.However,students with bad mental health status mainly adopt passive coping styles such as endurance,avoidance and rarely use means of problem solving styles.5.Parental rearing patterns have impacts on the rural high students'coping styles.Parents'emotional support and understanding are helpful for students to form positive coping styles,such as solving problem.On the countrary,parents'bad rearing patterns such as severe punishment, overinterference, overprotection,rejection or depreciation predictate the formation of passive coping styles such as avoidance ,letting out grievance or illusions.Based on the above conclusions,this study also raises some educational suggestions,hop- ing to offer some guidance and help on rural senior high students'family education,meanw- hile to improve the relationshop between parents and their children as well as to promote rural senior high students'mental health. |
