Objective: To develop a coping style scale for military personnel in different scenes. and to examine its reliability and validity. Methods: According to the coping theory, referring the existed Coping Scales, developed the Military Personnel Scene-Trait Coping Style Scale(MPSTCSS). MPSTCSS was composed of 18 scenes which were classified 6 scene subscales, and added 1 lie subscale, totally including 110 items. Randomly selected the data of 752 servicemen as groups from NANJING military area. 41 officers and soldiers were re-examined after one week with this measuring scale .50 were tested with EPQ and CMMHS while testing this scale. The reliability and validity were tested by Exploratory Factor Analysis and Correlation Analysis,et al. The reliability analysis included Cronbach's a coefficient, and test-retest reliability. The validity analysis included content, construct, and criterion-related validity. Results: Using factor analysis, the primitive scale suitably extracted two common factors, deleted 16 items whose load factor less than 0.4. In conjunction with the subscales Cronbach's a coefficient, deleted 4 items more.Plusing seven lying items, the formal scale containing 90 entries, two common factors. total factors named negative coping (PC) and active response (AC). The subscale factors were respective named with negative emotional coping (AF-PC), emotional positive coping (AF-AC); military affairs negative coping (MA-PC), the military affairs active coping (MA-AC); military special Circumstance negative coping (MC-PC), military special Circumstance active coping (MC-AC); personal development negative coping (PD-PC), personal development active coping (PD-AC); interpersonal relationship negative coping (IR-PC), Interpersonal relationship active coping (IR-AC); health and economic negative coping (HE-PC), health and economic positive coping (HE-AC). Twe common factor and the total factor Cronbach'sαcoefficients were 0.893,0.940,0.933, P <0.01; test-retest reliability for 0.690,0.813,0.636, P <0.01. The scale and EPQ and CMMHS factor have the most significant correlation. Conclusion: In this study,It has preliminary completd the development of the Military Personnel Scene-Trait Coping Style Scale. The scale structure is elementary reasonable to measure the coping method of officers and soldiers in different scenarios. Reliability studies show that the scale test-retest reliability and internal consistency reliability fit the psychological surveying requirements. The scale has qualified content validity and construct validity.Through the Mental Health Inventory and the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire correlation analysis, It confirms the scale criterion validity. In short, the reliability and validity of MPSTCSS basically meet the standards of scale designing and can be used in military psychologic research.
